History

The Crystal Palace is a former cinema, designed and built by the architect  Louis Dossel in 1931.

It was acquired by the municipal government of Molenbeek in 1974.

In 1998, the municipality gathered local private partners including Paul Tackoen, then head of Charmeuil.

In collaboration with SDRB’s Director General, Luc Daems, the decision was taken to restore this complex to its former glory.

The old buildings were renovated - and new buildings were constructed - in a resolutely modern style.

In deliberate contrast with the original decor, the renovation is marked by the use of noble materials, including polished steel, Hainaut stone, etc.

Particular care was taken with the design of the entrances and the integration of the site with the courtyard.
